Excerpt From The Book

I’ve got good news and bad news. First, the good news. If you live in America. you have the most freedom of occupational pursuit of anyone in the world. Nowhere else is there more opportunity to choose your own destiny. You have the freedom to set your sights on any goal you choose.

Now the bad news. There is a lot of competition out there, and some of it wants the same job that you do.

If you are like most people, you may have “fallen into” your first job. You may have taken the first job that came up. You may have had the father of a friend get you “in” someplace. You may have found it on your own and you’ve been there for a long time now. Whatever the circumstances, chances are you did very little, if any, in the way of research about the job. You just took it because it was time to get a job, and it was available to you, whether it was a good fit or not.

Because nobody really teaches us job acquisition techniques, some of the most critical of all life skills, you’re left to learn it on your own. Did you ever attend a class called “How to Get a Job 101“ or “Survival in the World of Work“? Why isn’t such a class mandatory in every high school in America?

How did you learn what you know about employment? Most likely, you picked it up, a piece here and a tip there. You absorbed attitudes from your parents and from the media. You observed what friends did in the workplace. You proceeded through trial and error; the school of hard knocks. What you learned was likely somewhat haphazard. The result is that, if you’re like most people, you are confused, frustrated, wondering what to do, and where to turn next.

Well, I have more good news; you’re holding the answer in your hands. This book is a step by step guide as to what to do and how to do it in order to dramatically improve your chances of success in both getting and keeping a job. You might be surprised at all that you can do to control you own employment situation.

Having salable skills and knowing the techniques of seeking and acquiring employment are two separate but necessary requirements for successful entry into the work force. In these pages you will see a step by step process that will produce a positive result. If you don’t know the rules of the game, you lose.

If you are wondering what qualifies this author to be your instructor. I have personally used, and/or coached others in how to use, every single approach described for you in the following pages. Many first time job seekers, of all ages, have used these techniques and have successfully found employment. You may not use ALL of them; however, I am confident that if you follow these suggestions as they apply to your situation, you will experience success and new found confidence in finding and keeping gainful employment. If you follow these simple rules, you can Win at Job Hunting and land The Job You Really Want. There are some additional and unique approaches, not presented in this book, you may want to consider if you are a confident, no-nonsense, determined, organized person.
